Universal acquired the rights to some of the artist’s most popular songs for a fictional musical in the style of the ABBA hit franchise
According to Variety, Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to a number of classic songs that will form the basis of a fictional big-screen musical. The singer’s estate was reportedly in talks with a number of studios about the project.
Meetings have started with writers and producers to figure out the direction of the project. Some sources have claimed the estate deems 1984’s Purple Rain a biopic so a more original direction is required.
